Strength Training Benefits

If you want to lose weight, feel and look better, the answer is strength training.  Life is easier when you are strong.  There are many benefits to strength training and for me I need to know the ‘why’ behind everything.

When you strength train your muscle tissue tears and when your body heals it will rebuild the muscle back stronger. As you start to increase the difficulty, you increase the glycogen storage in the muscle which is where an increase in the size of the muscle comes from.

Strength training helps you lose body fat. A person with more muscle mass will have a higher base metabolic rate which means burning more calories at rest.

When you finish a workout, your body needs to do a lot of work to replenish itself in order to bring itself back to homeostasis.  This is why eating directly after a workout is vital.  A strength training workout requires a lot of energy to handle the stress.  The amount of energy required during a single workout can boost your metabolism 24-40 hours after you finish your program.

Strength training increases bone density, builds a stronger heart, lowers your heart rate and blood pressure, improves blood flow and improves your balance and coordination.  It also prevents heart disease which is currently the leading cause of death. It helps to prevent and heal health problems related to cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.

It is also fun and a huge stress release! Afterwards you feel a sense of accomplishments and your brain produces feel good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin that allow you to feel happy all day long.

Yours in health,
