You maybe wondering if mindfulness is here to stay or if it is just another fad that will soon be forgotten.  Words like mindfulness and meditation are everywhere recently.

Mindfulness is defined as methods that help us be more attentive, aware of our bodies, and manage daily stressors in our lives.

It is the state of being conscious or aware of something.  It teaches one to observe thoughts and feelings without being caught up in them.

Mindfulness is much more than a buzz word but is something that has been proven to prevent anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions.  Exercises like meditation, focused breathing, body scanning are said to improve brain function, reduce stress and heighten mood.

Jon Kabat-Zinn founded the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where his research showed that his Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program supported patients with chronic pain lead better quality lives.

The MBSR program was not getting rid of the patient’s pain but it allowed them to accept and cope with the pain.

New research is proving that mindfulness techniques can also reduce stress, anxiety and depression and help everyone cope with daily stressors.  These mindfulness techniques teach people to be more aware and check in to see if their thoughts are actually correct.

Many times people with depression or anxiety have thoughts that have a bias against them.

Mindfulness has greatly impacted many and is now easily accessible through different apps and videos.  It is different from meditation because you can practice it all day long.

Not all mindfulness techniques are the same and everyone is unique to what methods will work well for them.  Begin exploring different teachers, techniques and find the right method that helps you become present in body and mind.
