Description:
Singer/songwriter Susan Webb, who was backed on Joni Mitchell's classic "Court and Spark" and her brother Jimmy Webb's various works, is now available on CD in paper jacket! (Original release 1975, Anchor Records)Fred Tackett, Jessi Ed Davis, Dean Parks, Jay Graydon and Albert Lee on guitars, Jeff Porcaro, Jim Gordon and Jim Keltner on drums, Joe Osborne and Paul Stallworth on bass. and Paul Stallworth, plus Herb Pederson and singer Clydey King, among others, are credited. As the lineup suggests, the group bridges the gap from the so-called Wrecking Crew, who have been active since the 1960s, to the musicians active in the AOR period of the late 1970s. As the majority of the songs on this album are covers, the focus is on Susan's vocals, her clear voice, and the band ensemble that makes the most of it, rather than on the potential of the songs themselves, the singer's personality, or the artist's power. In other words, it is characterized by a man who mixes various musical elements that are typical of the works of the mid-1970s. A singer/songwriter based on storytelling wears jazz and soul designs to enhance his sophistication and broaden his range of expression. This work is in such a process. As the last two songs are arranged and produced by Jimmy in a suite style, this album is not 100% constructed, but conveys Susan's own warmth and charm. This mild pre-AOR feeling is the key to this album. (From Hisakazu Kanazawa / CD Liner Notes)
